FAQs

What Makes Raconte Different?

We know you’re looking for “the guy” who’s going to take care of you, who you can trust, not just for this suit or pair of jeans, but for all of your sartorial needs, now and in the future. We care about empowering you as much as we care about the clothes, and we know how good it feels to say, “I’ve got a guy.”

What does Made-to-Measure mean?

Made-to-measure means that the garment is made specifically for you based on your measurements (as opposed to being made based on your “size”). More precisely, it means that we manipulate an existing pattern by adjusting a fit garment that you try on. The most important alterations we make to the pattern reflect figuration; the minute details of your posture affect the fit down to fractions of an inch. It also means that you have a wide variety of design options to choose from, and a Raconteur to guide you through the design process.

How much does a suit cost?

We know the power of a well-fitting suit shouldn’t be out of reach, so we offer flexible payment plans and pricing for our services. The price of a suit is based upon the cloth used and the style of construction. A two-piece suit in our house fabric and full canvas construction starts at around $1,400. A suit handmade in Italy starts at $3,200. A fully handmade in America bespoke suit starts at $5000.

What’s your turnaround time?

Similar to cost, turnaround time depends upon the cloth and make. We aim for six weeks from initial fitting to your finished garment (a handmade three-piece suit takes more time than a handmade tie). This includes manufacturing time and any alterations that may be necessary after our Second Fitting. If you have a special date coming up or need a more precise estimate, feel free to give us a call: 314 722 6689.

What’s YOUR House Style?

Because our garments may last decades, we aim for a timeless silhouette. Every fit is unique to the wearer, but generally the jacket has a natural shoulder line, generous chest, slimming midsection fastened close to the natural waist, and an overall length that balances your proportions. We aim for a clean trouser line and tend to favor a fuller leg and higher waist to balance comfort and aesthetics.

Do you have a retail space?

We do not. Part of the beauty of Raconte is that we are at your disposal. We come to you.

How much design input do I have?

This is a more complicated question than you might think. You share details about how and when you’d like to wear the garment, and then we collaborate on cloth, fit, and design to realize your vision. We know you’ll be happy with the result, but you wouldn’t be working with us if you didn’t want our expertise.

Why do you like High-Waisted Trousers?

So many reasons. They hide a belly, lengthen legs, and draw the eyes further upward toward the face. High-waisted trousers are typically slightly fuller in fit, so they’re also more comfortable. We can talk for hours about our love for a high rise, so feel free to give us a call: 314 722 6689.

What Cloth Merchants do you work with?

In no particular order, our House Bunches include: Drago, Ferla, Loro Piana, Vitale Barberis Canonico, and more. Our Cut Length options include: Piacenza, Huddersfield Fine Worsteds and Hardy Minnis, Drapers, Carlo Barbera, Thomas Mason and Albini, Dugdale Bros., Fox Brothers, Dormeuil, W. Bill, and Porter & Harding.

How do I look after my garments?

We have a complete Garment Care section coming soon. In the meantime, don’t dry clean anything unless you fall into a pit of mud (we mean it!), and if you do need to go to a dry cleaner, have them spot clean any stains.

Can I cancel or return an order?

Our made-to-order, made-to-measure, and bespoke products are custom made to your precise requirements. Once made, our products are only suitable for your use, and therefore orders cannot be cancelled or returned unless the garments are faulty or not made in accordance with your order.
